You should monitor your bs carefully, take insulin and drink lots of water.
Check your level every hour until it is back to normal.
No need to run to a doctor or hospital for something you can take care of at home.
Hope you feel better soon.

I've had Type I diabetes for 36 years and am doing quite well. While I've had my highs and lows, it is survivable. I have been as high as 800, but that was years and years ago. Now my worst is in the 200s with an occasional 300 and an extremely rare 400. It is very rare that I get higher. The treatment is to take insulin. This will take care of the high blood as well as the ketones. Check at least every 3 hours. Drink plenty of water and don't overexert your body (which can make it worse). When your blood is not as high, then resume exercise to supplement a healthy diet. I count carbs, use an insulin pump and play hockey. It's treatable and one can live with it. You just have to manage it and stay on top of it.
Lisa Vilardo, being 400 one time, while not great, is not going to cause horrible damage. Being 400 repeatedly for a long time can, however. Make sure to consider what I mentioned above and get an appointment with a diabetic specialist who can check your HbA1C every 3 months.

The condition is called Hyperglycemia. The condition varies on whether or not you have been diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus. If you are not diabetic, the most common cause of Hyperglycemia is obesity. The cure then is proper exercise and diet to reduce the body's excess fat reserves. Damage to the pancreas can also be a contrubuting factor.
If you are diabetic, this is caused by an excess of blood sugar in the plasma. If your blood sugar is 500, you will have the following symptoms:
Polyuria (frequent urination to rid sugar levels)
Polydipsia (frequent thirst to dilute sugar levels for excretion)
Fatigue
Poor wound healing
Impotence (men)
Dry mouth & itchy skin
A diabetic can result from a combination of diabetic ketoacidosis, dehydration, shock and exhaustion.

My husband's was over 500 last night. He had been advised by a friend to not use his inculin, and jujst take his oral meds.....well, that led to his high sugar. He has an urgent doctor's appointment today. He didn't even tell me he stopped taking his inculin until last night when he was feeling really crappy....asked him if he had taken his blood sugar, when he fianlly did, it was so high, the machine couldn't even read the machine, the doc and nurse I spoke with, said it meant it was probably over 500+. Scarey!!! Good luck to your wife.

My friend has been so high her glucomonitor couldn't even read the number. It just said high. But, I would drink water because then you'll have to pee and if you do, it will release a little bit of the blood sugar at a time. Maybe you didn't dose enough after eating something. I hope you get lower.

I've heard of people going higher and living to tell about it, but I wouldn't chance it. I've never gotten over 200. Get your blood sugar down now. Here are some tips on how to manage your health:

It's too high and you need medical attention. You probably feel like you need to drink and urinate a lot. But that is not coma or death high. If you start vomiting or having trouble breathing though you ned to get to the ER asap. Otherwise, just see your doctor within a week tops. You'll probably be put on insulin.
