Yeast infection or herpes?

Question

I was given a blood test for herpes about a year ago and it came up negative. I got a yeast infection that I think I've passed onto my boyfriend. His symptoms are extreme redness like a rash on the tip of his penis and on the side. The first time it happened, we treated ourselves with over the counter stuff and it responded to it. It basically went away for a couple of months, then I got pregnant (I had a miscarriage) and got another yeast infection. His rash is back now and I'm just scared that my test was a false negative. He says it doesn't bother him at all, just a little itchy once in a while. He's going to the doctor Tuesday and was treating it with Monistat and it was going away again but then he stopped because he wants to have something to show to the nurse.

I've been tested twice since I have been in a relationship with this person. But only once for herpes. I've been in a monogamous relationship with this person for a year and a half and now we're getting symptoms.

Condoms at all times.....Until you know you are disease free...Yeast infection if occurs ofter can cause you to become sterile...You pass it to him and get better then he passes it back to you, and then the infection gets stronger and stronger and then makes it hard to treat... Herpes is another story...You can never heal or get rid of herpes...There is no CURE for herpes. Stop using over the counter treatments and see a doctor that specializes in sexual transmitted diseases. But use the Condoms

I would keep the appointments that you have to see the doctor. I'm surprised to hear that you were given a blood test for herpes--it is very, very rarely done and is not that helpful because it isn't able to tell whether you have genital or oral herpes. The herpes virus causes sores, not redness or rashes. And, people can have herpes, whether genital or oral, and not know it. People can contract herpes and never show symptoms, show symptoms right away or show symptoms years later. Thus, either one of you could have contracted herpes at any time with any partner and you may have never known it and it may first surface at any time in the future. Typically, herpes is only able to be tested for when sores are present and those sores are cultured. Also, yeast infections are not considered an STD. Having sex can throw off the vaginal environment which can bring about a vaginal infection, but yeast and bacterial vaginal infections are not sexually transmitted.

Sounds like a yeast infection. Guys usually don't get as bothered as girls by yeast infectins, but they keep passing them back to their partners. Still, ya never know, and some yeast infections wont go away without prescription meds. BOTH of you need to go to the doctor.

Both of you see a doctor at the same time. You are passing whatever it is back and forth between you. You need to be diagnosed and treated at the same time. Sounds like a yeast infection, but you did not describe all the symptoms for that.
