If the mucous they are coughing up is yellow or green and they are running a temperature consider seeing the doc as this could be a sign that they have an infection and may need antibiotics. To help loosen the phlegm have them drink a "hot" aka warm beverage that is clear such as chicken broth. You mentioned "long lasting cough" and I wonder just what you mean by that. Are you referring to them having had the cough for a long time or are you referring to each coughing spell lasting a long time? Having the kids soak in a warm tub with menthol or tea tree oil added can also help.

That's a start, but I'd do more by evaluating the environment and determining whether there is anything in it that could be an irritant.

Use of sprays to kill germs is important.

Use of listerine is important. You can spray that around the home as well.

You want to keep the immediate surrounding area as free of germs as possible.

If you have pets, make sure they aren't contributing to the problem. Some do.

Build up your child's resistance by giving him/her wholesome cereal with low sugar content (prefer honey).

Garlic, very important in daily use.

Do all these things, you should see improvement soon.

Remember, the human body could be a host for all kinds of bad organisms. You want to free it from them, completely.

A regiment of all I mentioned should do the trick.

No doctor will tell you this, they want your business.

Again, survey your environment immediately.

You will also make it better for yourself.

Lots of answers here on this subject, so I doubt I'll win the prize.

Wonder if anyone knows a pet that doesn't carry parasites?

If this has been persistent you need to take your child to their pediatrician make sure it is not something that needs some type of antibiotic for. For phlem and such I would say steam in the shower usually loosens it up and stops the runny nose also I have done hot tea with some honey sugar and milk.

Go to your local New Age shop or Head Shop and buy some Eucalyptus Oil in the aromatherapy section. You can use it with an aromatherapy burner, or just pour a few drops of the oil onto some boiling hot water and inhale the vapors. It works wonders for clearing up your sinuses. Also, 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, added to a glass of tomato juice, chased with cold water, will help clear your sinuses up as well.

vitamins A, B, and C are the big ones. Make sure it is not environmental (allergies, fabric softeners or cleaner sensitivity)
The Vick's vapor plug-in works great as well as the nose tab for people who snore. Elevate the bed a little or prop kids up slightly with pillows. Make sure they have tissues available at bedside and a garbage can. Make them blow their noses well before they go to bed.
Good luck, but remember if it is constant it may be allergies.

Gargle with warm salt water. That usually helps numb the throat and also break up anything on or around the tonsils. The child may need antibiotics though. I'd definitely take them to get checked.

Hey Mom,,, if they are already having all these symptoms,, you are a little late on the home stuff...

They probably need to see the doctor for a round of antibiotics... then keep on giving them the vit-c and such...

You can use Niquil at night,, it really works good....

good luck
