Are there any diseases one can get through simply kissing?

None. STD's are transmitted by sexual activity.
Yes, the herpes virus causes cold sores. so if your partner has a cold sore on their mouth/lips you should abstain from kissing otherwise you can get a cold sore on your mouth. But, a cold sore on your mouth is a cold sore, not an STD. And, yes when a partner has a oral cold sore they should never perform oral sex on their partner, they could easily give them genital herpes that way. But, the asker asked about kissing, not oral sex. Lastly, yes you can get chlamydia and other bacterial STD's infections in the throat, but it extremely rare and is not rountinely tested for. And, one would not be able to contract that through kissing, but through oral sex and the asker asked about kissing.

Yeah, like herpes and stuff. Any STD that is found in the crotch that could be spread to their mouth if people have done, well, very intimate things...then yes, they can possibly give it to you by kissing.

Just make sure you look before you kiss, that they don't have any sores on their lips or anything...

yeah...you can get herpes simplex 1....also commonly known as the dreaded cold sore!!!
Also it can be spread if you or your partner has it and decide to have Little oral sex...it can turn into genital herpes!!! Also it is quite common for people to spread gonorrhea and syphilis and many other STD's after performing oral and get these disease in their mouths and throats...if you think you might have something you need to get checked out right away!!!
