you can also lower cholesterol by just eating oatmeal, or taking niacin supplements.
niacin has been found to help lower cholesterol, the only things is- it causes some flushing, gives you a warm feeling.

There are a number of medications Crestor, Lipitor, Vytorin, etc. that you get from a physician. Naturalist use fish oil, flax seed oil. You also need to watch what you eat in terms of trans fat. Exercise helps to reduce cholesterol . Talk to your doctor for advice. High Cholesterol is dangerous and should be taken care of....

I don't know about prescribed medications but taking fish oil caplets really lower the bad cholesterol. Usually taking 1-3 a day, can lower it by the next visit...ask your doctor if this is right for you. Plus they're cheaper then the other stuff.
