I experience both. Heart palpitations is what, for example, a person feels after a fast run. It do not mean something is wrong-you just can feel your heart beating. It can however,be a symptom of a problem.Fibrillation is when the electrical currents in your heart that make it beat at a steady pace get interrupted causing it to beat erratically. This you can also feel sometimes. Take your pulse and if the beats are evenly spaced and are between like 60 to 80 per minute after no exercise for 15 minutes it's probably palpitations. If the beats are not at a steady pace or are way off 60 to 80 per minute it sounds like fibrillation. When mine is acting up my pulse can run at my count over 200 beats per minute. Fluttering is the exact word I used when describing what I was feeling to my doctor when the atrial fibrillation was diagnosed. Please get yourself checked by a doctor. There are medications that can help and lessen the potential health risks. No matter what the cause of what your feeling, not knowing what it is and just worring about it may cause it to worsen and wouldn't be better to know?

Palpitations may be caused by an increase in heart rate or some kind of abnormality in the heart rhythm or rate. Fibrillation is caused by either the atria (top chambers of the heart) or the ventricles (bottom chambers) contracting so fast that they quiver and can't pump blood. If it is the atria (aka atrial fib or a-fib), then it is less life threatening than with the ventricles. Since the ventricles are the large part of the pump, if they quiver, it is immediately life-threatening. If your heart is fluttering, I suggest you go on to the emergency room or get into your doctor to make sure you don't have some kind of irregularity. Fibrillation is not the only problem the heart can have and that can cause a problem.

Palpatations is simply the sensation of being aware of your own heart beat.
Fibrilation is a very specific term that's used to describe random electrical activity and associated contractions in either the atria or the ventricles.
Palpatations can be caused by a number of things - adrenaline, drugs and disease as well as by panic attacks. They're generally normal, if isolated, regular palpitations do need to be investigated though.
Palpatations accompanied by chest pain, sweating or feeling faint are indications for urgent assessment because they can be symptoms of a problem with the heartbeat.
