The things I have read and viewed about the effects that the cholesterol in animal fats have on my health and the fact that I am diabetic, with coronary artery disease decided me. Eating red meat also increases the risk of some cancers, especially colon cancer.

For me... it was the only way to satisfy the questions I had. I found myself thinking "Why is it okay to eat a cow but not a horse, a chicken but not a parrot, etc". Truth is... the only reason it's okay is because OUR society tells us it is. In other places, they eat totally different animals (cats & dogs for example).

Personally, I could not justify eating some animals and not eating others. I've spent too much time around ALL animals... I know they are all fairly smart... most are at least somewhat trainable... and all have feelings and show emotion (at least to some extent). Then there's the animals that are both food and pets (rabbits, snakes, sheep, etc). It's just so hypocritical.

Add in the horrible practices of our factory farming operations and voila... vegetarian it is!

I believe that everything and everyone has and should be given a chance to live their own life, imagine how the animals feel when their own are taken to the slaughter house, its murder! Its barbaric and unhealthy, Ive been a vegetarian for a year now and have not been ill since (temperature, fever etc), I'm much more energetic and sporty and I hope to make other people understand what cruelty goes on inside dark, secretive concrete buildings, the so called 'chicken factory...'

I began hating the taste of meat. I was personally feeling 'kicked in' and hated my life at age 22. Every time I bought meat I would think about what it actually was and it turned my stomach, I couldn't cope with my dire health or my guilt for contributing to animal slaughter any longer hence I became a vegetarian. It is a personal choice thing, it works for me!!

I know it sounds bad, but I started to be one because my sister and friend were becoming vegetarians. After a while though other reasons were added to my staying vegetarian, and now I am staying a vegetarian and will never eat meat again.

Well for me there are tonnes of reasons. Some are personal and I won't list those here but here are the main ones:
Animal cruelty
Treatment on farms/slaughterhouse
Fur trade
What the animals eat
BSE/CJD
Foot/Mouth Disease
Hormones contained in poultry
I myself could not kill, gut and skin any kind of animal therefore I do not eat one as this would make me a hypocrite.
I don't feel the need to justify myself to anyone. I am happy being me :)

First of all, I don't like meat or fish except for chicken. But the main reason was because I don't like contributing money to the people who kill animals, therefore saving the animals that would be killed in the future if I gave them my business. Lots of people say that I am crazy because of it, but I've never regretted it. I'm saving creatures. I'd never kill and eat my dog. So why should I kill and eat someone else's animals?

Buddhist philosophy influenced me and also the fact that I found meat unpalatable. Unfortunately though I do miss fish - especially tuna and other seafoods, but that's the way it goes. It's a commitment. I would love to eventually adopt a vegan style of eating one day but cheese is my one massive weakness.

Learning how animals are slaughtered for our "benefit" made me realize how unfair and cruel it is...and also because of the hormones and chemicals added. It really does not sound healthy. That is pretty much why I became a vegetarian.
