it's kinda salty - has the chip beef in it - and i don't know if it's just cream cheese and/or mayo also

Yea, that's chipped beef and before using it you really should rinse it with cold water to get most of the salt off; I'm assuming you're talking about a warm dip, so I'd use cream cheese and maybe some jack or cheddar cheese; use some dry minced onions, a tablespoon of worchestshire sauce, 8 oz of room temp cream cheese, maybe 1/4 cup of other cheese, a little milk to thin it out, fresh ground pepper; put in a nice overproof container and heat at 325 for about 20-30 minutes till bubbly; you can add jalapenos if you want!
