Try a 'Japanese Steakhouse' in your area often times they will cook the food right in front of you at your table. Its a fun experience and the chefs will perform tricks with the cooking tools and food while making your meal. They crack corny jokes and keep an overall positive mood going.

I don't know where you are at but on the west coast there is a chain called Benihanas where you sit at a table with other customers (together) and they cook your order right on the grill in the center of the table. They really put on a great performance.. all their chefs are trained to cook with a style their own it really is amazing!

Yes there is. Actually, there are quite a few of those in London. Benihana, Matsuri, and Dehune are that type. They are not traditional Japanese but contemporary restaurants specialised in steaks, chickens and grilled fish (also called 'teppan yaki' restaurants, since they cook food on teppan-grill table in front of you), still they sell traditional dishes such as sushi, sashimi, and tempura. Worth trying, but expensive. If you can find a really traditional sushi restaurant, sometimes they can prepare your dish in front of you too.

You're thinking of Benihana's. It's called teppan-style cooking, and you usually share a table for 8, all facing onto the hot grill where the chef cooks and flips the food onto your plates.
It's great fun, especially for parties and groups.
