My cousin's baby is in the hospital after his lung collapsed. He is now on a breathing machine. Has anyone ever had this happen before? If so, how long will he be on it and will he ever be able to breathe again by himself? Please help

He was just born, don't know the cause, just weak I guess. He was healthy other than that.

This happens probably more than people think. Your cousin's baby will be just fine and will be able to breath on his own before you know it. Babies are extremely resilient and recover much quicker than adults. As to how long he will be on the vent is determined by his overall health and how strong his respiratory muscles are. I work with babies on ventilators all the time and 99% of them make a full recovery. I will keep him in my prayers.

It is really hard to say with a collapsed lung, and not knowing any other health history. That poor baby. I empathize with you and hope the baby is doing well.

What was the problem with the baby? he/she probably had a pneumonia, something to collapse the lung. If it's taken care of, down the line it should be O.K.

Babies are amazing healers. He has a better success rate as a baby than as an older child or adult. I'm sure everything will be fine.
