Excellent question. I believe that it is mostly due to the fact that they know in their hearts what is right, but the problem is that they cannot accomplish or even attempt what is right, so they resort to feeling threatened and using insults to cover up their feelings and better cope with guilt. Humans were born with emotions that include compassion, some more than others, but they just need to learn to use it beyond the level of only humans. That is why I consider, to a degree, the trait of compassion as a skill. For some people, it takes many years to open up their eyes and learn that all animals are equal (yes, humans are considered to be animals). As a result of our evolution, we were inborn with intelligence and the ability to discriminate between right and wrong. The animals below us, however, were not born with this intelligence. That's why the argument that "animals eat other animals" is irrelevant to supporting whether humans should consume meat. Although animals are behind us mentally, they have emotions just as we do. In doubt? Look at how your pet dog reacts when you leave him for a long period or even short period of time. Most likely, he or she will whimper or chew (seperation anxiety). That is the emotion of sadness, and it shows that they are able to miss someone. Also, notice how cats purr when you pet them. Purring is most often connected to happiness, and sometimes it is connected to other emotions. Nothing sounds more air-headed than when people spout about how humans are the only ones capable of feeling emotions. Please, people, get a clue.

To answer your first question, it is because you have lost touch with reality. Humans have survived for centuries cultivating plants and harvesting meat from animals to survive. Humans are an animal that happen to eat other animals, just like a tiger or a wolf, you say that they have souls and feelings too so I expect you'll be convincing them to turn vegetarian? But now you live in a city and take survival for granted and the realities of life on earth are washed away with the distractions of urbanization. If you are a vegan it will not be good for your health. Humans have evolved to need meat as a part of their survival. Not as much meat as the typical american eats, I will grant you that, but some meat nonetheless.
I know this sounds like an attack, it's not. I respect your right to choose any lifestyle you want, I would prefer if you did the same.
Right there are two reasons people make fun of animal activists. You asked, and there's my opinion.
By the way, just in case you were wondering. Muelsing actually saves merino sheep from a slow and painful death due to flystrike.

I think people make fun of things they don't truly understand, many people deal with things best through their own twisted humor. People sometimes can't comprehend or don't want to comprehend why others are different than themselves or sometimes they are afraid maybe what they are doing is wrong. No one truly likes to be wrong, especially when it comes to their own beliefs. (nothing against anyone, its just what I have observed. I am a meat eater and an animal lover, but who am I to judge someone else. I say more power tot he people that stand firm in what they believe!)
Have a GREAT day!

i think there are some terrible abuses of animals occurring interior the international and that i commend peta for observing out for those unfavorable animals. I dont % to work out elephants and whales hunted into extinction. Bravo for peta for staying on precise of that. I additionally dont have a difficulty with them being vegetarians. i'm one (many of the time). yet I draw the line at harassing meat eaters and sending threatening letters to meat farmers. i think of livestock basically have one certain ideal and that's the marvelous to be sparkling as quickly as I placed it between 2 taco shell flaps.

People poke fun at animal activists because it seems like they care more about a dog,cat or hampster more than thier fellow human being.
If I was being chased down by a dog who wanted to bite me I would hope someone would shoot it before it mauled or killed me.I wouldn't want someone around who would feel bad about the dog and have second thoughts about killing it when my life or someone elses was in danger.

You answered your own question, equating eating a pet with eating an animal raised to be eaten. Also how many people do you think your going to "get through to" by saying they disgust you? Wish them peace but they disgust you, thats funny.

Wile I'm 100% on your side (in theory, I don't know your personal views). I would suspect that putting together a coherent augment for why you feel the way you do would go much farther to help animals then to bash people for not understanding your poorly constructed sentences. If you were to develop the augment you started to make and make it look much more like a similar analogy that Gary Francione uses, you would be much more effective.

they make fun of animal activists just the same as someone that is of another ethnicity, or religion...simply put, they make fun of us* because they either feel we threaten their "normalacy" or because they go on what they see on the media and put us all into one category of extemeist. And those that promote peace are always made fun of...
"First they ignore you
Then they laugh at you
then they fight you
Then YOU win" - M.K. Gandi
Fight for what you believe in! being differnt is great!
*please note* when I say us, I mean anyone that has been made fun of because of something that is a part of their being...rather it be veganism, religion, ethnicity, sexual prefernce, etc. Please do not assume I am vegan, because I am not. However, I can relate with being picked on, and I just wanted you to knot that you are not alone.

I totally agree with you! It is so wrong, all of these disgusting ideas about the food chain and whatever else. maybe we're more evolved, but that doesn't mean we have the right to kill animals. Pawya or whatever, who's to say that we AREN'T doing what we can to help people? and as for you "Lovey" that is so....revolting!
