Recovery: I have been told "bruise like" pain to insertion site for a couple of days. Sand bag, presure dressing, or angioseal to insertion site. Very uncomfortable to lay flat, hard to drink, can't eat, need to use the urinal or bedpan, not allowed to get up. This is only for 6 hours if site stays sealed, longer if not.
Hospital stay depends on the health status of the person getting the stents. If they have no other medical history, need only need one or two stents, and procedure went well, they will lay flat for about 6 hours (each institution is different) than stay over night and be discharge before lunch the next day. If there are other health problems the person can stay 1-3 days if all goes well. Stay is longer if there are problems. Please see this link from the American Heart Association for more information.

Generally, since the stent is placed by going into an artery in the groin or the wrist by angioplasty (using a wire to place it), hospital stay is generally a few hours or overnight, depending on patient's risk for bleeding or response to the type of anesthetic. Generally, for the groin placement, there may be a short period when they will advise you not to drive or lift something heavy. After the stents are placed, they may also recommend cardiac rehab, which is exercise designed to help you regain your optimum heart health. These exercises should be done only with someone trained in actual cardiac rehab. The health spa trainers are not trained in cardiac rehab. Ask your doctor or the hospital case manager to set you up with the proper rehab.
