Sex could be a major contributing factor and I´ve also heard that fighting the urge to urinate and holding it in can cause UTIs too.

During intercourse bacteria can be forced into the short urethra of the female. As stated urinating after intercourse can help flush out any bacteria but isn't foolproof. If you are experiencing symptoms increasing fluids can help with the discomfort but you really need to be evaluated by a physician.

You know what ive been asking myself the same question, since i also have the symptoms of UTI and i also take lots of care of myself, my brother is a paramedic and he told me some times the cause could be that u don't have enough water to drink in a day, so one on the things you need to do is to drink lots of liquids, natural is better, or cammonmile tea, about the sex thing i dk, the first time i had UTI was three days ago and i asked myself the same question , i think sex could add to it , and that wipes should also work.

I have read that doctors recommend urinating after sex to flush out the tract and help prevent UTIs. This would lead me to believe that sex can increase the chances of them.

I'm Not sure if sexual intercourse is the cause, but I'd advise you to drink cranbery juice regularly, eat loads of fruits and veg, especially ones with vitamin c to boost your immunity against infections, also have you heard of Echinacea, check it out it's a natural remedy to help keep infections at bay - not just urinary tract infections...
