Thanks for the answers! - just to further explain: In Australia you can get them over the counter. Here I am not registered with a GP and have had trouble finding one (just moved house). It's a lot of time to get off work just to see a doctor just to get a puffer which I only need every once in a while.

if the question is about UK, you can get one from pharmacy without prescription in emergency only and you can prove that you have been prescribed in past, otherwise it has to be prescribed for very good reasons
1. commonly prescribed in asthmatics which itself can be life threatening if not controlled appropriately
2. regular monitoring of asthmatic is needed to see if their treatment is working or not
3, being a drug, it has interaction with other medications as well,

I am not aware of you being able to obtain one without a prescription....I use a ventolin inhaler and lost one while out recently..I went to a pharmacist who said I would have to go to hospital to get one as my gp was shut...I think it is something to do with the fact that ventolin can cause 'highs' if used by the wrong kinda people.

What is more important is why you do not wish to go to the doctor for this unless you are having to pay an arm & a leg in which case there are certain people who get them off their friends at reasonable cost.

I lived in Spain for 23 years, you can buy them over the counter at a pharmacy. They are fairly cheap.

ventolin inhalers are only available by prescription from a doctor. the reason for this is b/c they contain steriods that act as broncho-dilators to open up the lungs so you can breathe. the steriods are considered a controlled substance.

Go to an A&E department where a nurse prescriber could do you a prescription - if you NEED one that is. What's the problem with getting one from your doctor?

The pharmacy. As long as you really need one. You will have to pay mind. Mine cost me a 10 quid in an emergency once.

If you are going away for Christmas, Spain or Greece, you can buy them over the counter, or I would gladly let you have one of mine (don''t need them so much since I gave up smoking) but I don't know how I could get it to you, best of luck.

ps, you can also get them in Portugal :¬)happy hunting

If you are in the U.K. or most places in Europe you cannot. this is only given by a prescription, and only rightly since this contains Salbutamol and therefore you will see in English POM (prescription only medication) so if any chemist sells you this it is illegal. and since the plastic container is used by drug addicts to smoke their Heroine. very limited by Doctors. to whom they let have. You must have a diagnosed Asthma or Bronchitis
