What happens to your body specifically during the early stages (1-7 days) of quitting cigarettes? I'm curious to know because i'm in day 4 of not smoking (smoking for 8+ yrs) and i'm getting some weird affects on my body since i've quit, one being that my cough got worse.

Everyone experiences things a little differently but some things we all seem to have:
1. taste - things taste a bit different as the insult to your tongue heals
2. Cough - It will increase for a bit as your lungs heal what they can of the damage you did by smoking....I equate it with finally being able to get all the crud out. This is temporary and will go away after a bit.
3. Smell - You will begin to smell things again and be suprised how much your clothes, car, home etc stinks!
4. Colds - for a bit you will be more susceptible to colds- or at least I am for the 1st month.
There are more, but that is a pretty good bet for what you will notice most of all...oh, and you will have strange dreams! I dunno why, but most everyone I know that quit smoking, including me, had them.
