The human body has a limited ability to store excess carbohydrate. This is stored in a fraction called glycogen and serves as a rapid supply of glucose. The remainder is converted to fat unless the sugar is present in great excess, in which case it is excreted into the urine.

Sugar right away, if your body needs it. If your body does not need it it goes to fat. All excess food in the body that is not needed right then goes to fat. In the meantime the sugar goes way up waiting to be processed and stored.
