For the vegans out there(or nutrition buffs):

After switching to a vegan diet I would experience illness, slong the lines of throat and held colds, more frequently than before(think once every couple months), but I'd recover in a day or two. Could a vitamin or mineral deficiancy be the cause, or could this just be a quincadince?

it could be a good idea to take a multivitamin supplement designed for vegetarians. if you keep getting sick after that, keep notes of what you are eating and how you are feeling(boring but useful) and check if any of these symptoms occur after eating a particular food. it sounds more likely that your immune system is down a bit, which can happen if you aren't getting all the nutrients your body needs. it can happen with any diet, but there is more of a risk if you are just cutting out the animal products and not getting the nutrients you would get from them from another source.

It could be your body detoxing, or perhaps a sensitivity to a food you are eating more of to replace dairy. Soy and wheat are big allergens.

When i went vegetarian at age 15, my folks didn't know what to feed me, so I ended up eating a lot of dairy. Well, that year I had a chronic case of tonsilitis, like every other week it would return. I ended up with my tonsils out at 16 y.o., but still got sore throats a lot.

When i went vegan at 18 I not only stopped getting sore throats, but also stopped getting UTIs as well. I had a milk-protein allergy all my life and never knew it. Could be the same with you and soy. You can be vegan without soy foods too. Just google it!

How is your diet? If your diet isn't sufficient to meet your nutritional needs then you are going to get sick. It isn't going to happen right away, that would be coincidence. Since I became vegan I get sick much fewer times than before. Regular exercise helps prevent illness by activating your immune system, but a good diet is the cornerstone of your health.

All vegans should take a zinc supplement. This may be your problem or you should go to the doc to see if you have any other existing condition. But switching your diet to vegan shouldn't make you sick. Most ppl feel better.

Any unbalanced diet has the potential to make you more susceptible to illness.
