8.9 is kind of high. If it's one hour after eating it's supposed to be 7.8 or less. If it's your 3 month test, it should be around 6.04. Consult your doctor about the insulins as it may need to be adjusted.

The difference is how long after it's administration the insulin has it's peak effect. There are short acting and long acting insulins.
A blood sugar of 8.9 is not consistant with life....wayyyyyyyyy too low. Perhaps you mean between 80-90 which is normal. Generally speaking insulin is not given unless blood sugars stay high and this is because their body isn't producing insulin in the amounts needed to maintain a normal blood sugar. Some people are walking around with blood sugars in the 200's and aren't being treated....this is a cause for concern.

there are three tipes of insulin: with rapid action (Actrapid, etc) and short time effect, with long action but not such a strong effect (Insulatard, etc) and an intermediar tipe. it's very important to know that , although both high and low bloodsugars are not good for the body, low bloodsugars are extremely dangerous for the brain and should be avoided. if you are not shure of the level of your bloodsugars, it's better not to take insulin until you consult a specialist, than to take insulin and obtain a hypoglicemia (low bloodsugar) that can harm you permanently.

Assuming that 8.9 is referring to your A1C reading that equates to a 3 month average reading of 240 mg/dl. Which means you need to see your doctor, that is a high average reading. He will be able to recommend the right mix of insulin.

The reason everyone is confused is because us Americans don't realize that different countries have different units of measure.

As an American, i have no idea what that blood sugar means.

Please make sure you seek out education to answer these questions.

some are long acting to ehlp regulate blood sugar throughout the day and others are for immediate regulation of a high blood sugar

8.9 cannot be a blood sugar level. long acting may need to be evaluated on the dosage if regularly having lower blood sugars
