Isinglass is made from fish bladders. It used to be used to clarify beer but i doubt if it still is. I've also hear of meat being added to cider during the brewing process but I doubt if this happens now either.

Some alcohol does have animal products in.
Wine often us fish bladder in th learing process (but ther are veggie wines avalible, Sainsburys does several), Some beer also uses animal products. Grolsch, Castlemain, Budwiser and Becks are all fine though. As for spirits the vegetarian society says most are ok!

The most natural and healthy diet for humans is an omnivorous diet, and not a plant based diet, or a meat-based diet per se. The Paleo Diet can be very widely varied and omnivorous for the most part, but the most important thing is that it’s unprocessed, and avoids the worst foods that agriculture brought mankind… refined inflammatory vegetable oils, refined grains (some are worse than others), and sugar! As you can see, the benefits of adopting a Paleo way of eating can be incredible! I’ve been eating 95% Paleo for the last 5-6 years and I’ve never felt better. I have dozens of friends that have adopted a more Paleo way of eating too, and have seen all sorts of health problems disappear, including eliminating acne and other skin problems, digestion problems, improving brain clarity, and of course, losing a lot of body fat!

The veg/vegan issue with alcoholic drinks is that very often isinglass (a fish by-product, IIRC - it's definitely of animal origin) is used to make beers and wine. If you choose to cut out fungi from your diet, there's also a problem with the yeast.

You can get veg friendly beer and wine though, and spirits should be OK.

its not true that you " couldn't drink cos it has animal fats in alcohol". You can drink it, and many do !

However, you can't drink most of it if you are veggie or vegan.

Its scary how many people here don't know whats in thier food !

Beers and wines are often fined with the swim ladder of a sturgeon fish or crushed oyster shells. "charcoal" used to fine wines is often not charcoal, it is burnt chrushed bones.

About 75% of wines and beers are non-veggie

There are veggie and vegan alternatives, you just need to hunt them out

Alchohol itself ususally doesn't - however gelatine (make from pork or beef bones) isinglass (make from the swim bladders of fish) and various other animal by-products are often used to 'clear' beers and wines (and some spirits before distilation).

Check with the vegetarian society's beer & wine list for more info

There is no Fat put into alcohol.

Most (not all) spirits are vegan as they are distilled and do not use any other product.

Most wine and beer is not vegan as they use a number of products derived from animal, to clarify them. As mentioned by others.

Unlikely to contain animal fat, however a lot of alcoholic drinks use animal products to refine the liquid, eg isinglass is used in some beer and is obtained from the swim bladders of fish, gelatine is used in a lot of ciders, and various animal-derived substances are used in wines, sherry & port.

A lot of drinks are vegetarian - you don't have to stick to water & fruit juice! If you're worried, check out http://www.vegsoc.org/info/alcohol.html
