yesterday. Everything was fine except her BP was pretty high. It always goes up when she goes to Dr. and she gets really nervous. It was down to 140/80 last night when I checked it. This morning when I got up she was sweating (cold sweat) and said she had felt sick but she was feeling better. No pain or any other symptoms. She also is diabetic and on oral meds for that. Thinking it may be a blood sugar drop (cause it was running low a couple of days ago) I gave her some cereal. She's fine now but I'm unsure about what to do if it happens again. Could it be her heart if the only symptom is a cold sweat? I don't know if I should take her to the ER right away or not. She gets so nervous when she has to go to the dr. I'm afraid it might make her worse.

First of all regardless of what anyone or myself say, whenever in doubt take her to ER, Never ever compromise with a life, specially if she is your mother.

Simple having high blood pressure is not that of concern. This could be if she is walking about 100 meters or more or climbing some stairs before seeing her doctor or even nervousness, as you mentioned , can cause BP to go up.

Cold Sweat is slightly dangerous only when it's accompanied by angina (slight pain in chest, heartburn/ "moving " pain in left arm or pain in the back side of the shoulders). If she is going through these symptoms then, just dial ER or take her to ER.

But when only cold sweat is there, usually it may be caused by low sugar level. Since she is diabetic she must eat little bit of some thing after every two - three hours, to avoid such incidents.

This is all from my life experience not to be substituted for medical advise. May God bless you and your mother with hale and hearty life. Thanks

Low heart rate could cause a sweat, also nausea and vomiting, and fainting or dizziness. But so could low blood sugar. Did u check her sugar?
