you should go for finger foods like chicken strips or grilled kabobs or burgers cupcakes instead of a whole cake veggie, cookie, meat and cheese trays maybe with some sliced toasted baguettes to make mini sandwiches with you could add some olives and whatever else you think would look good also if you do happen to do cupcakes make a variety of flavors to cater to everyones tastes hope this helps happy birthday

you could do a layered taco salad, maybe some chicken or ham wraps, fruit tray,
If you have a theme to your party, I would try to relate your food to your theme (ex Fiesta = mexican foods, Oriental = Chinese, John Deere (farm) = back yard barbeque, hamburger, hotdogs.)
Check out the following websites they are full of ideas regarding food as well as decorations and themes. good luck

Do all finger foods.
Chicken nuggets, lil smokies, chips & dip, taco bar, flavored popcorn (cheese, hot, buttered). (16 year olds probably do not want a fruit or veggie platter but, it's a thought)
Look in the freezer section of the grocer for pizza rolls, egg rolls, potato skins.

Pizza should be one of the main dishes especially for a birthday party.
Snacks, if you don't want to be messy, fruit!
