Why do you think babies get "diaper rash?" Because its good for them? Because pee contains harsh chemicals that can create an ammonia burn.
Also, the acid in urine is bad enough, each time it uses the litter box it should be cleaned within the hour. A cat can smell up to 15x BETTER THAN A HUMAN, so if you can smell it, it probably REEKS FOR THE CAT! Do the right thing and empty the litter box everytime you see it and soon no one will tell you even have a cat because the odor will die down in your home.
I had two cats and people were shocked when a cat walked into the room because they could never "smell" the tell-tell signs. Be a friend to your pets and love them enough to clean up after them.

It's normal for cats to have ammonia in their pee....it's only bad if it gets anywhere other than the litter box. It can stain really bad.

Is your cat sick? Ammonia in cat urine is normal, depending on the level (same with humans), that is just your bodies way of excreting the ammonia so it is no longer in the body. If you are worried about your kitty, take him/her to vet just to confirm. You won't get sick though from this, don't worry.

Cool it Summer, Ammonia is ammonia, in anything including cleaning agents, stop worrying.

no - it´s natural - normal & healthy :) it just would not be cat pee without it....
