I have been on Lantus for two weeks. Still adjusting to it. I don't have a short acting insulin yet, I have to wait three weeks to see a diabetes educator before I get the short acting dose. Any way I am up to 22 units of Lantus and I am crashing. I woke up at three this morning with a blood sugar of 50. I ate two cookies and had 8 oz of milk. Then today at work (I'm a waitress) I crashed down to 61. I ate three glucose tablets, was ok, then I crashed again two hours later. My question is, what can I eat that will bring it up and keep it there. Simple sugars just crash right back down, but I need something that will bring it up and keep it there for awhile. My doctor is out until next monday. I'm going to take less Lantus tomorrow.

Lantus is the long acting insulin. There is no peak with it so you get about the same effect from it all day.

When you go to that class you will find they advise you eat three meals a day and up to four snacks spread throughout the day.

You mention nothing about what you eat. You clearly are not eating enough to cover this lantus.

Orange Juice is one of the best things that will bring your sugar back up in a hurry. Also you may carry with you some brown sugar. This acts fairly fast also.

When your doctor prescribed the 22 units they assumed that you would at the very least eat as you should. This will all be discussed in that class but until then please start eating more.

With lantus and proper eating you should never have the problems you do. In fact you may begin to go high because you are not using the short acting insulin.

When you have diabetes your whole life changes. Once you get the hang of it it is not that bad. But you need to learn the proper balance. As you may already know the short acting insulin is used to cover any give meal.

If you are use to not eating because you want to keep your weight down you need to begin looking at this differently. If you don't your very life could be at stake.

Example: My wife has diabetes. I woke up one night at 3:00 AM
She sounded normal but when I felt her she was sweating profusely. Normally I just go get orange juice and wake her up and she comes back. This time there was no waking her up. No matter what I did she had no response.

It took the EMS and the emergency room to get her back. You don't want this to ever happen. Especially if you live alone.

If your doctor is out isn't there anyone else at his office, he shoul have a md covering for him. Call his service, you need to decress the lantus. Call the diabetes educator see if she can fit you in sooner if you get no where with the doctor. BS goes up apx. 20 points for every 5 grams of carb. When I'm low I use milk too (skim or 1/2%) then eat the cookis after a few minutes. The fat slows down the progression of the sugar. When I started lantus I did this my dose was changed every few days the first month or so, then my dc. split my lantus to 2 x a day when I started my novolog. This helped like you wouldn't belive.

Decrease your Lantus to about 15 units. When you crash, keep something with high sugars/carbs around. I always have a candy bar in my purse!! I also keep candy in my nightstand for night crashes. I would try to get in to see anyone you can at your doctor's office. Somethings not right if your sugars aren't maintaining at all. You have to remember to eat 3 square meals a day. The carbs and proteins you get should keep your sugars pretty normal. I eat a grapefruit and some toast or oatmeal for breakfast, something healthy at lunch and definitely a good dinner to hold me all night. Or, try breaking up your lantus dose to twice a day. I take 10 in the morning & 10 at night instead of 20 all at once. Good luck!!!

You have to start with the fast-acting sugars (glucose tabs, OJ) before you can eat/drink anything that'll keep it up longer. Take the fast-acting, wait 15 minutes, check to see if your BG is higher. To prevent the later crash, eat some protein (cheese, meat, etc.).

And Lantus is actually not as predictable as one may think. When I started my pump in Sept. the diabetes educator told me that they say "24 hours, no peak" but that the 24 hours has a plus/minus of 10 hours. In other words, it may be with you for anywhere between 14 and 34 hours, and if you've given another dose in that 34 hours if it's still acting, you may be in trouble!

Talk to your doc, of course! ;)

Orange juice or apple juice, candies or crackers next to your bed. Something you can get to fast when you start to crash. Make sure you are eating three square meals a day, and have several snacks throughout the day. Call your doctors office and have another doctor check what's going on, don't wait until Monday, it sounds too serious.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.

I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

liquid form of sugar such as orange juice, soda,or milk
about 4 to 8 ounces
wait about 10 minutes
then eat solid food like sandwich or crackers
the reason for giving the liquid form of sugar first is to make sure the food don't soak up the liquid sugar and slow down the time for the sugar to get into the blood
if u have any further questions u may email me anytime

Bar of chocolate or bottle of lucazade. You need to maintain a good sugar level as a hypo can happen very quickly. Hypers take a few days so it is better to be safe than sorry. Are you eating the right no. of good carbs during the day?
