I would prefer some real good advice as what to expect. I hope this gets answers from a professional pumololigist,who knows what I need to know about chronic copd.

increased difficulty breathing, poor color, increased somnolence due to anoxia. Agitation due to anoxia, eventual heart failure and respiratory arrest.

Near the end, the time comes to make the decision about intubating the patient. Most patients do not want this and have signed DNR orders (do not resuscitate) so they can die. They could live a long time if put on a ventilator, but that will be the only thing keeping them alive. Patients are usually terrified at the end. Not being about to breathe is one of the most frightening feelings you can imagine. Suffocation is a horrible way to die. My mother had emphysema.
