i agree, but whats worse than eating animals is treated them cruelly, torturing them in overcrowded cages, infesting them with hormones, Then eating them. the whole thing is a WASTE

Its because they think that if you are a vegetarian all you eat is
carrots and stuff which is not true.Take Peanut butter and Jelly
Sandwhich for example. How about curry and all that other Indian
food. What about ice cream and vegie burgers and stuff. Now a
days if you are vegetarian it means that you eat vegetables.
Its kind of weird.Do not be upset if they say the whole food chain
thing.I wonder what they would do if a superior race wanted to
eat humans and they chain up humans in a torture camp with
no water and they make you eat other human body parts so
they can grow fat and produce meat (which is what happens to
an animal in the slaughter house) then their urine and feces
infects them and they are diseases and close to death. They are
dragged behind a truck and have a rope tied to their neck.
Then they are butchered. What would heppen if a superior race
did that to us?Would we say "You are in the top of the food
chain you may divour us as you please" no we will say
"screw the food chain I want to live"!!!Although I agree that
humans are the top of the food chain and they get privilages
but then again its simply because humans are smarter. If
a Lion were to get that intelligent then we are doomed.
I am not a vegetarian because I have compation but simply
because it is nasty to eat flesh from a dead body. Its for religious
purpouse since meat is unclean and diseased. They say that
plants are living as well but they have no nerves and cannot rott
away as easily and blood and flesh and feces are not a part
of a plant or fruit or wheat.Again I am not a vegatarian
because of compation because Iam ruthless toward my
enemies by nature.I only think of someone who makes me
mad dead and its the way I think. It really must taste
good for them but thats only because of the artificial flavour
and stuff.Otherwise it is nasty. They say that animals can be
eaten because in Christianity animals are for the stomach.
But why is it that Jesus was vegetarian?Obviosly to maintain
cleanliness...

I ate meat up until early last year. i've been vegetarian for about a year and a half now. People eat meat because they like the taste and typically have been fed it since they were a child so that it is an unthinking habit. That, combined with a general lack of critical thinking, is how people are able to eat meat.
I eventually stopped because I couldn't ignore how blatantly wrong it was. We acknowledge that its wrong to cause suffering, even to animals, unless that suffering is necessary, and we acknowledge that it is not necessary to eat meat to survive or be healthy, but to connect those two statement and conclude that it is wrong to eat meat because it causes unnecessary suffering is seen as being radical. Instead people develop all sorts of justifications about why it is not wrong, but I have never come across a single justification that could not be easily refuted.
spongefre...: I have to respectfully disagree with you. Since becoming a vegetarian I have converted at least 4 people, and thats without even trying. I told them I had become vegetarian, and they immediately asked why, and I explained it to them logically, and they ended up "converting." And, like I said, thats without even meaning to convert. Even among those who didn't convert when I explained why I was vegetarian, I was at least able to get them to respect the position more than they had before. I never talked about it in depth with anyone who didn't end up saying I had a good point. People change their minds all the time, and it all depends on how you approach them. The arguments behind vegetarianism are very sound ones, and as long as you don't make the person feel like they are being attacked, you should get a decent response.

It's their decision and even though you disagree you have to tolerate it.
You WILL NOT convert people. That was the first thing I learned as a vegetarian. All you will accomplish is making people pissed off at you.
I don't understand how people can eat meat with all the diseases running rampant.
Of course, I also don't understand people who eat cabbage, but some people do.
Some people find it appetizing (not me with all the blood and...ick) and you have to respect it.

I hate to argue, but your logic is flawed. Make no mistake, I don't understand why you would eat meat either.
At the same time I don't understand how you can eat eggs and consume dairy products when pound for pound their is more suffering in a glass of milk then in a steak. Your on the right track though. If you are a vegetarian for ethical reasons, consider becoming a Vegan. To stop consuming dairy and eggs brings your actions much closer into alignment with your values.

if slaughterhouses had glass walls, then alot more people would be vegetarians. Also if they had to go kill, skin, chop up their own meat.when I'm eating with my friends i feel almost bad for them. They eat jello and have no idea what gelatin is,they eat animals without thinking about the dead animal on their plate, they don't realize all the hormones put into the animals. When I eat with them thats all I really see.kind of weird, but i don't look down upon them for eating meat though.

First off animals arent harmless They eat each other. Its how the food chain works. 2nd, meat is a good source of protein and other nutrients. And last and best of all it tastes great.

I also must disagree with sponge freak. Though I do not push my beliefs on anyone, when asked, I answer honestly, with the FACTS. I have had MANY friends join me in the vegetarian life once they realized what they were doing.

animals are not harmless, it's all about evolution
Kittens play with their prey before the kill to practice hunting,
Birds kill their weak subblings for more chances to survive,
Some types of spiders eat their own kind (the males have no other way to mate if not by sacrificing their own lives),
....I can go on and on...
Besides, we have evolved as humans thanks to meat!

I know exactly how it got to my plate. I know all the cruel little things that happen to it. And ultimately, I like meat. I'll eat almost any kind of animal... don't like the taste of veal. I love beef, pork, poultry, rabbit... and most things from the sea. I like what I like and enjoy eating it too. Fortunately my nutritional level is high enough I can also understand how some people choose NOT to eat meat.
