Most likely it is a coincidence. However, yeast does feed off of sugar, and most diabetics have very high blood sugar, especially when they are first diagnosed. It's very possible that the yeast you had in your body was growing quickly because of all the extra sugar in your body, causing a yeast infection.

I have found that some women are more prone to yeast infections than others. Douching frequently can cause these infections. I am diabetic and have onlyl had three in my lifetime.

Yep. I am not the only woman I've met who had one when she was diagnosed with diabetes! I was a senior in college, and got diagnosed with diabetes (type 1) and mentioned to the doc about the itching and she (without even testing!) said yep...take the yeast infection meds!

A yeast infection is a fungal infection, and sugar in the bloodstream feeds the fungus. You may also find yourself more prone to athelete's foot and ringworm as well. It's unfortunate, but another reason to keep the sugar levels down.

I take 2 or 3 tablespoons of coconut oil a day. I stay away from trans fats and I also include plenty of butter and cod liver oil in my diet. And of course very little sweets. After about a year my blood sugar levels are normal now.
