Okay I know that a cold sore is in a way a form of herpes. But can the oral kind be spread to the vaginal area? I was wondering because my cousin was saying how they're two different kinda infections, that one may not be spread to another area. But I don't know for sure.....just wondering, anyone with some GOOD advice, please respond. Thank you!

Yup. It happened to me. She didn't have a cold sore at the time either....
Out of the 1 in 4 people that have genital herpes, about 1 in 3 has a type-1 infection.
Type-1 HSV doesn't really belong on genitals though, so it gets confused and usually breaks out a lot less often and isn't as severe.
I'm lucky...having type-1 is a lot easier to explain to a partner.

On the other had, Type-2 usually doesn't happen orally for some reason. They are basically the same virus, it's just how people view them that sets them appart.

Even though there are two different kinds of herpes virus'...you can still transmit the cold sore type to the genital area...although you will not usually get repeat outbreaks in the genital area from the cold sore type.
The best thing to do is to be careful when you have any type of cold sore...since you can pass it on. Wash your hands frequently and avoid oral to genital/anal/oral contact while the sore is present.
I have found that using L-lysine (which you can find in the vitamin isle) a couple of times a day, helps clear cold sores quickly...you can also use them when you feel one coming on to prevent it.

Your cousin is an imbecile! Sorry to be so blunt, but take heed of this.........

ALL cold sores are Herpes Simplex 1. They are highly contagious to ALL moist areas of the body. At the first sign of a cold sore, do not come in close intimate contact with anyone else.

Yes, it can spread to the genital region. Do not participate in any kind of oral sex when you have a cold sore or even the beginnings or endings of one. Get some Abreva.

To be thoroughly truthful, I examine an editorial that led me to objective an ICE cube. that's it! prepare an ice cube to the sore some cases an afternoon and it is going away. Going much greater, in case you alter your weight loss software around somewhat, you will no longer even get chilly sores anymore. i attempted this recommendation some months in the past and it has worked completely.

It can spread, especially if the cold sore is cracked and some blood comes out. Even if you can't see the blood, it could be there. Practice safe sex, and try to steer clear of it.
