Insulin and oral medication can be used at the same time. In fact, it is sometimes necessary. I use both and it causes me difficulty, but I have no choice. Expect weight gain and difficulty in controlling low blood sugar attacks.

Consult an endocrinologist or a diabetologist. Yes, insulin and oral tablets can be given simultaneously. It depends on the case.
During pregnancy, only insulin can be given.
The first line of treatment for diabetes will be diet & exercise, however, if this fails then OHA, or oral hypoglycemic agents are given. If your diabetes cant be controlled by the OHA, then in some cases, insulin can be added or simply the OHA are removed & the patient is started on insulin.

Best go to an endocrinologist and a diabetes educator. The endo will take care of your questions/insulin issues while the educator can teach you how to best manage your daily life. I saw both and it has turned my life around!!!!
