As somebody who has recently quite both meat and smoking, I can answer this question well. Smoking is harder to quit initially, whereas meat is harder to maintain. It's been almost a year since I quit smoking and I can honestly say that I rarely get the urge to have a cigarette. When I do, I just ignore the craving and eventually it goes away. But the first couple months, even using the patch AND gum - man, those are killer.
Now, quitting meat is a different story. The longer I go without meat, the more I miss it. I love food and I used to eat meat and it tastes good. I have tried many, many different cuisines, many different vegetarian ingredients, and many different cooking methods. I have come to the conclusion that there is no vegetarian food that is as delicious or as satisfying as meat. Now, there is some darned good vegetarian food out there - Indian and Italian first come to mind - but meat is better. And the longer I go without the more I miss it. It's sad because no matter how much I like my food I know there's always a certain level of culinary delight that I simply will never again achieve. Sigh.
By the way there's no way in h**l I could be vegan. I'd kill myself before I gave up cheese.

Is it so difficult to stop eat meat?
-No, not really. The first month can be a bit tough but only becuase your so use to it.
What is more difficult - to stop eat meat or to give up smoking?
-Smoking by a long shot. I've done both and trust me giving up animal products is a cake walk compared to that. The inteesting thing though is that even though giving up smoking is harder I feel that by not eating animals I've done more to make myself feel better day to day when I gave up smoking. If your doing it for reasons that make sence to you it's much easyer.

I liked eating meat and I loved smoking.
That said, smoking is a physical addiction. It is very hard to quit.
Stopping eating meat was not physically, but culturally difficult.
It was harder for my friends and family that it was for me.
As soon as I stopped looking at animals as food, then it was simply no longer an option. It was just a poor dead animal.
I'm not making a choice to not eat meat any more than someone who "chooses" not to eat people. It is just not an option for me.

i'm a veggie who gave up smoking. Smoking was definitely definitely harder to give up. Then again - I liked smoking and I never actually liked meat. Don't stop eating meat all at once - slowly substitute non-meat into your diet and soon you'll realise that there really are sooooooo many yummy alternatives.

Well, I've never smoked but have been vegetarian for just over eight months. For me meat was easy to give up, since I love animals and it was a moral/ethical choice. I believe smoking would be harder to give up since it is, like any drug, addictive. Meat provides natural cravings, but is easy to substitute with fruits/veges, nuts, beans and a lot of other foods.

I have never smoked, but I think giving up smoking would definitely be harder. When I gave up eating meat, it was easy. I knew it would be healthier and I would be helping animals. Smoking, unlike eating meat, is an addiction. To give up an addiction is definitely harder.

I've been veggie or vegan for twelve years, and I'm twenty now. It's not always easy, but it's about sticking to a moral conviction. Smoking is something you do for your own pleasure, it affects no one but yourself, veganism, on the other hand improves the world as a whole, by reducing the numbers of animals in factory farms, and by reducing your environmental footprint. It's always easier to give up something for other people than for your self.
If you're thinking about veganism as a lifestyle choice, go for it. Its the most positive thing anyone can do.

It's hard. I ate meat for decades; it comes very naturally, because most people I know eat it too. I have lapsed twice. I always try to get back to eating veg, but it's tough. Eating meat is so cheap and easy. A very easy cultural habit to succumb to...

Watch this video, and see if it will be easy to eat meat again. Warning, cause this is reality. You will know more about what that piece of chicken on your plate had to go through to get there. Bon Apetit!
