i came across two brands of organic eggs at the local grocery store.

horizon and country creek. both of these are USDA approved organic and had "cage free" also stamped on the package.

i was wondering if anyone thinks either of these two are reliable and animal friendly etc.

if not. could anyone recommend a brand that they know which is animal friendly? i don't live anywhere near local farms...

Take the eggs, put them in a pan, fry them and find out which one is better.

Well, if you can't trust the USDA, you better figure out a way to raise your own chickens.

A lot of people who eat organic food swear that the best food for you is local food -- the local chickens build up immunities to local germs, and pass it on to their eggs -- thereby passing it on to you. So, if you choose a local farm as your egg supplier, you can go out there and check it out yourself.

But if this is too much work, I'd say go with whichever USDA approved brand is cheaper. Because those inspectors *do* take their jobs seriously.

I would suggest the country creek, as my mother is highly against animal cruelty etc. and she eats the country creek organic eggs.. She also does heavy research in to these things before even considering using them.

Horizon is a brand that I trust when it comes to organic eggs and dairy. Their products are sold at my local co-op which is pretty thorough when it comes to ensuring organic quality.
