Ok this is a two part question...Yes, it is alright to exercise if you just have a cough, though not a really good idea. Anytime that you are sick or starting to get sick, your body needs plenty of fluids and rest to bring you back to good health. Exercising will not give you the rest that your body needs, and the added sweating causes you to lose more fluids that you what are supposed to be taking in.
If you are having chest pains, it is NEVER a good idea to exercise, because of the strain you are putting on your heart. This can lead to heart dysrhythmias and a whole lot more. My advice to you is to hold of on your exercise routine until you are well. In the meantime, get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids, and if you are experiencing chest pains right now, get to the doctor immediately. There can be more going on than you think.

Depends on the cause of cough and chest pain. I would talk to my doctor before starting an excercise program while having these sypmtoms. As it could be any number of things.

My daughter is asthmatic and has cough and chest pains when she exercises, but if you are not asthmatic and don't know the cause it would a good idea to see your doc.

Hope you feel better soon.
