I'm a diabetic and I tend to go low a lot. I've tried having snacks, but I go to high then. I'm about to get my licence and I don't want to be crashing too low. What can I do?

i am also type 1 diabetic with an insulin pump...it definitely sounds like your basal levels are set too high...there is a way to check to see if your basal levels are correct, but it does include some fasting/not eating..i have a medtronic pump and there are detailed instructions for doing that in the instruction manual...you also may be taking too much insulin per carbohydrate....i have had diabetes for 40 years, so i have a lot of experience and find i can usually make changes and corrections without too many probs, but i would absolutely suggest you contact your doctor or diabetes educator regarding this..you don't want to take any chances with dropping too low...especially while driving...just an added comment...make sure u keep somewhere visible either on your body or in your car that u are diabetic...people have died after being pulled over by the police thinking they were drunk and put in jail to sober up...only to become unconcious and die due to an insulin reaction..good luck and be safe!!

Make sure there is plenty of protein in your diet, and less carbs & starches. Also, if you have been a diabetic for over a year you will qualify for a pump. They are the surest, safest way to control highs and lows. The pump is small enough to fit into a cell phone case, so people think you're wearing your phone. You can coordinate the color to your outfit by getting cell phone cases in different colors.

Always eat when told to. I lost my license because of insulin reactions. Good Luck!
