I had five blood tests done for hsv2 from feb thruogh this past october all where about three months apart. I was not with anyone while tests where done just to let you know it could not have been transmitted then. but my fifth test came back positive to an old infection of hsv2. but the week before the fifth test was done i think igot my first lesion. it was small and went away in five days. but wouldn't the test be new infection why was it old and how do they get that diagnosis? why where all the others negative till now. my second test was a good six months later.

Herpes does not show positive in blood tests unless you have an "active" outbreak, that is why all the other tests were negative (because you did not have an outbreak at the time of testing). The fifth test came back positive because, even though you were on the tail end of an outbreak, there was still some evidence of an "old" herpes outbreak in your blood. I hope this clears things up for you.

It takes a while to build in the bloodstream to get a good result. If it is an old infection you will show more antibodies in bloodwork. Secondly some people can have it for a long time and show no real symtoms. then due to high stress, fatigue, or hormone changes you get an attack. Beware , with herpes you are now more open to getting hiv easier. Many people who have herpes also have HIV , did you get a test? I suggest you get tested for that as well.

the virus lives in the nervous system not the blood. Frequent false negatives with blood tests.
