I have sudden intermittent weakness in both my legs at the same time. I have a need to sit for fear that my legs will give out. I have never remained standing to see if that would be the outcome. This does not last very long however but it is occuring more often as of late. Any help you could give me with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, codcares

My age was in question. I am 60 years young. Maybe this will be an added help.

shortage of blood to the legs. it happens if you are in a position here blood flow to the legs is interrupted. if you finally get up to walk, your legs might give way. happens to me too.

Poor blood circulation, basically. There could be different causes such as varicose/obstructed veins, diabetes, lack of movement, need of multivitamins or better nutrition..., so the best thing to do is to get tested. Go to your doctor for advise, and while you do that, try laying down with your legs higher than the rest of your body to rest them. If possible, do some light exercise for your legs (for example: in that laying position, try a pedaling moving of your legs on the air, or while sit, make a swimming kicking)
Massages could help (a rub with some Rosemary oil or cream after/during your shower would be good). Drink lost of water, try to cut off sugar if possible, have a good daily multivitamin/mineral supplement and of course, exercise!

Until recently, I always thought I was the only one who had this! my case is not as severe as yours. There were times when I would be just about to fall asleep and it although I was lying on my back, it would feel as though I had just tripped! It was more an eerie and weird feeling than a scary or debilittating one.
I think it's called restless leg syndrome. You can find more information about it online and I'm sure there will be lots of information on webmd or wikipedia. I've also seen pills advertised on tv that address RLS although I would shy away from pills unless my doctor told me otherwise.

You are most likely lacking minerals.
Start by monitoring, and increae your sodium and magnesium intake as well as all the others the human body needs to function properly.
Also for proper nerve transmission study up on ALL the B vitamins.
My guess is, the weakness usually occurs as your stress level increases.
Give your body what it needs and you will be able to handle the sudden stress impulses better.

You dont say how old you are, it might be a factor. Go to your GP; it may be a first sign of some disease that might be very treatable now. Have you similar weakness in your arms? Or numbness? Are you vit b12 deficient perhaps?

If you've ever smoked, ask your doctor whether this could be intermittent claudication.
