I hope this helps....

tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure done under a general anesthetic. The tonsil is surrounded by a capsule of tissue. The surgeon uses special instruments to remove the tonsil by dissecting between this capsule and the adjacent throat tissue. Different surgeons have different techniques, but the most commonly-used methods are with electrocautery or with a cutting instrument (scalpel or scissors) For otherwise healthy individuals, tonsillectomy can in most cases the be done on an out-patient basis. The site where the tonsils were taken out heals on its own over a period of 7-10 days. Research has shown that removal of the tonsils does not hinder the bodies immune system.

Here is a website that has information regarding afterwards.

Most ENT's use laser surgery to take out tonsils. I had mine taken out 3 yrs ago ( I was 23 y/o) with my adenoids. It only took 30 mins and I was good to go and I had no stitches. After the surgery it felt like I had a sore throat. Depending on her age, healing from the surgery differs. One of my friend's son had his taken out (he's 5, be 6 later this month) and after about 2 days he's running around with the best of them.

Under general anesthesia a scalpel is used to cut around the tonsil, and then a wire loop, snare, is slipped over the tonsil and the wire tightened to cut the tonsil off at the base.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

It will be done under general anesthetic. The surgeon will then go in and remove her tonsils. It is a pretty routine procedure. Your daughter will be fine other than being a little groggy when she first wakes up and a sore throat for several days.

I'm not sure, but I think they go in thrugh the mouth, use a loop to tie off the tonsils and then cut and stitch. From what I have been told it is simply and not very invasive (compared to an appendectomy)
