yes...he has hepatitis c. alt and ast levels can be normal one month, abnormal the next or comepletly normal. it's the natural consequence to having hcv.

mine was always normal with a few abnormal in between. they couldnt find out what was wrong with me (had many symptoms) until i was 35 when a specialist tested for the actual disease.

if he is having heart issues right now, it could be from the hepatitis c virus itself. hcv is not just a liver disease...it only needs the liver to reproduce it's genetically changed virons.

the other issue is that with HCV is that the main artery could be affected.

many dont understand the consequences of the chronicity of HCV until it's too late.

wish i could help you more.

158 is a 'little' high but not bad. When someone has hep. c or maybe even another liver problem, then the elevated reading is a response the liver has to inflammation. In hep. C that number can go up and down all the time with the person not even realizing it. Sometimes it depends on what the person was eating or drinking the day before the lab work. The cardiologist is right in wanting more information. He needs updated enzyme checks and maybe a recent liver biopsy. (I have had enzymes in the 500-600 hundreds recently)

OK< to think of a liver enzyme of being @ 65, then going to 158... and a Dr. not wanting to look @ him, there may be reason to have it looked @ ASAP. 158 is not all that high, and it matters of how fast it jumped to be 65 ~2~ 158 . and if he has hep.c he really needs to be looked @ ASAP. there may be cause and reason, for concern. is his belly seem to be swell in up @ all? on the upper RT. side. My advise is to him him go to a liver Dr. just to be on the safe side. but in the mean time keep in mind 158 is not real high. for safety have go to the Doc. ASAP. best of luck to you all.......... I can say this because, I do have a liver problem myself, and on a waiting list for a transplant @ this time...~ ~ ~
