who is saying that genital herpes is the same as genital warts?! yes, they are both caused by a virus and are considered an std and they are not "truely" cureable but they are totally different viruses. genital warts are small, painless bumps on the genital area and can be removed just as any wart can, but needs to be done by gynecologist. they are also caused by the "human papiloma virus" or HPV that can lead to cervical cancer so you probably want to get checked by your doctor even if you don't have any "bumps" so they can check for the virus. good luck!

Yes, genital warts are an STD--one of the most common ones. So just like other STD's, you can catch them or give them to someone else during sex. The thing is that they're not always "active"--meaning someone who has herpes (which causes the warts) won't always actually have the warts BUT you can still catch/transmit the actual STD even if you don't have active warts. Sooo...how long has it been since you two have had sex? Doctors recommend contacting anyone you've had sex with within the last year if you find out you have an STD, so if it's been within the past few months, I would be freaking out. Of course, he could have caught it after you two broke up--best case scenario!! Or, it might just now be "active." If this is his first wart, then I would think that he probably caught the STD fairly recently. Either way, if you notice anything on yourself, go to your doc, because there are treatments that can help prevent the icky outbreaks, though there's no actual cure for the disease.
Good luck!

You are not a virgin, you have had manual and oral sex, you just haven't had penetrative sex. Do you think lesbians are pure for eternity simply because they're never been penetrated by a penis? You are most certainly sexually active! Even if his penis was 5 feet away from you, you can get STD's from oral and manual sex. Genital warts are caused by the Human Papillomavirus, and it is incurable. It is also known to cause cervical cancer in women. Many types are prevented by the HPV vaccine that is recommended for girls and boys at age 12. If you have HPV, antibiotics will not help. You need to visit an gynecologist ASAP and you should take your sexual health more seriously. The activities you are engaging in carry just as high a risk of many STD's as penetrative sex.

it is considered a virus, you better go to your gyn doc if a previous sex partner has them. the virus can stay dormant in your system for a while, and can be transmitted even w/o symptoms.
