I'm sorry but I live in Spain and the answer is NO. I am also a vegetarian and since I've moved here I have learned how to cook because it is nearly impossible for me to go out to a restaurant and find something good. They love meat here: sausages, veal, and the meat they put in almost everything (yes it was even put in my "veggie" lasagna at one "Italian" restaurant) HAM...... Look out b/c they will put ham in anything, no matter how bizarre.

I lived in Spain all my life till now. To tell the truth, in Spain there is not much vegetarian nutrition culture. Apart from the big capitals, where you will surely have a few options to choose from, it won't be too easy to find many specifically vegetarian restaurants.
However, this doesn't mean you won't be able to eat without violating your principles. In general, and specially in the coast areas, there is a great gastronomic culture, including all kinds of dishes. Mediterranean diet is very rich in fresh vegetables, and some spanish typical dishes are 100% vegetarian. Spain is also famous for having the best fruit in Europe.
In general, I'd say you won't have any problem to choose among a few dishes in whatever restaurant you visit here.
Have a nice time!
Pd: Wine is also very good in Spain, and it's absolutely vegetarian

Si. Yes, you can always find good vegetarian food in Spain. In regular restaurants you will find rice and vegetables, often beautifully prepared. Example is GAZPACHO SOUP, made from tomatos, onions, garlic and finely cut up veggies. Go to the open markets to buy fruits and veggies to munch on throughout the day.
You will find salads, pastas and many things you are used to in the U.S. Of course Spain is a meat, pig and chicken eating country so you will have to be careful. But you will have a great time eating healthily, I promise.

I have to agree, you're going to have a hard time with food. They eat a LOT of meat. And you're going to see it hanging on walls all over the place, big hams and more hams, and more hams, and then some salami type things, and then more hams, and yeah. It's everywhere. Of course, their cities are like cities anywhere, and there is a lot of selection.
I would look for a good guide book before going; you may find one that points out where to get a meat free meal the places you're visiting. Do you eat cheese? Because if you do, then you'll have a lot more choices, because they do have a lot of cheeses. It's a beautiful country, enjoy the trip!

generally not really but if you cook your own food then you will be ok they have lots of really good fresh vegetables. people tend to look at you weirdly when you ask for vegetarian tapas but this is msotly in smaller villages etc in any major town or city you will be fine otherwise you will have to live off bocadillo de queso which i had to for quite a while
