yes, I know...that is the problem with having diabetes!! and this craving is so strong...it never goes away! get some hard diabetic candy...but nothing else...

I Know it must be hard being a diabetic. My father has it and he goes through the same things with cravings, but they have in stores sugar free candy and it helps alot and some of the Candy's taste just like real candy. Try it I think you might like it. I also think it is subconscious because you know you cant have sugar. Its like being an alcoholic. They crave liquor but they no its not good for them. I always felt bad for diabetics especially in kids because there limited on what they could eat and they see there friends eating things they cant. The medication unfortunately does not help with cravings. They do have support groups to help with this issue. Sorry if I didn't give you the right answer. Hang in there it will get better

Well, half of my family are diabetics so I see this all the time. "You don't know what you got until it's gone." My grandfather craves the sweets. My uncle and my husband crave the bread and pastas. It's okay to eat bread and pasta, but not in the quantity they want. They've got some really good sugar-free chocolates out there now, but you still have to eat them in moderation. Dove and Russel Stover both have some good ones. I can't remember the brand, but I had some sugar-free hard candies the other day that were just awesome.

The answer is quite simple, actually. Your whole life, you've lived to eat... that's why you're diabetic. Now you have to learn to eat to live instead. That's going to take a complete overhaul of the way you think about eating. Instead of thinking eating is for short term pleasure, like sex, you have to start thinking of eating as a way to get healthy and feel good for the long term. If you don't change your way of thinking, you're doomed to a life of declining health with things like neuropathy, blindness, amputation, heart attack, strokes, etc. to look forward to. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm simply telling you how it's going to be. I watched my mother go down that road. I became type 2 diabetic a couple of years ago, and I refuse to go down that same road. I've found that learning to crave a good salad instead of ice cream with chocolate syrup isn't that hard to do when your thought processes are in order. you are not alone. MY sister did that for a while. Until her sugar and she learned her diet. Its hard to do because we eat so different and its like a shock to your system.
They do have sugar free hard candy and chocolate its really not that bad you just have to fine the right ones.
Even though i'm not diabetic, because my sisters are both type 2 and my mom is type 1 (insulin injections). I try not eat alot of sugar and tends to make me super hyper.

It is really hard on you. I have diabetes type 2 as well. I used to eat a lot of chocolates, ice-cream, beer, brandy and the like. However after being diagnosed as diabetic, I had a hard time initially trying to correct my lifestyle and eating/drinking habits.
With the advise of my dietician and doctor, I cut down those bad habits gradually. It is near impossible to cut them off over-night.
Now, after 3 years, my blood sugar level is near satisfactory - which means I still near to do more to improve further. I will go for exercise again with the hope that it will help me further (I used to be very active in sports such as jogging, badminton, and bowling until I retired from organising sports).
Hope this little experience will help you a little and I wish you well. Yes, also if you are on medication, please continue with them without fail and have regular check-ups with your doctor.

You can eat anything you want with diabetes.Beware of the person who suggested dried fruit. It contains gobs of carbos and will raise your sugar fast. Not that i don't indulge sometimes.
Also watch out for sugar free candy as many cause tummy troubles.
Why not eat small amounts of candy and give up that roll at dinner ? It's all in the carb counting.It's just a balancing act.
