Gardnerella is a genus of gram-variable bacteria of which Gardnerella vaginalis is the only species. Gardnerella vaginalis can cause bacterial vaginosis in some women. Although a chief cause of bacterial vaginosis, it may be isolated from women without any signs or symptoms of infection.
So this means you can have the bacteria and not have an infection. It is not a std. There are many types of bacteria related to the vaginia. Hope this helps you out hun..........Flo

No, gardnerella is a normal healthy bacteria that women have. Occasionally there is an overgrowth which leads to bacterial vaginitis, but this can be treated with antibiotics. It is possible that it will come back though. And, no, it is NOT gonorrhea!
