I am going in for a four day ambulatoury EEG and was hoping for any advice anyone had. If you have had the procedure, what is the best way to remove the neuron receptors without pain? Also, is the glue an issue? Thanks.

I had a "three" day ambulatory EEG. The main advice I would give you is: "Don't plan to go anywhere during this test unless you don't mind looking a bit strange with all the receptors, wires, etc.!"

The receptors come off easily with alcohol on a gauze pad and there is no pain if you let the gauze pad be soaked with the alcohol before you apply it to the receptor. The glue comes off easily if you shower right after you remove all the receptors.

I had terrible sinus infection and an inner ear infection just before the test and the receptors bothered me a lot. I ended up getting permission to take some of the receptors off because they bother me so much. I was able to sleep when I finally got comfortable. Even with some receptors being taken off, enough information was still collected.

Good luck!

I'm...confused, because an EEG simply measures brain activity, so an ambulatory EEG would be one that allows you to move around. It is not a procedure. I looked at some medical websites to confirm my opinion of what it was. They simply attach electrodes to your scalp to record your brain activity. That is all. it is not a procedure. They do not remove neuron receptors (I don't even know how or why they would even do that), and I don't think there is any glue involved :) I'm not sure what you're asking. This is a test, and a painless test. Has your doctor not talked to you about it yet? Interesting. Well, good luck.
