I had a very bad case of the flu a few months ago, used Afrin for the congestion, and now whenever I stop using it I get so clogged up. I've tried one nostril at a time but it didn't work. Otc decongestants don't work either. I'm like an addict running around for my next "hit" or squirt, but you don't get high from this stuff, you just can't breath!!!

Afrin is very addictive. You just need to stop using it cold turkey. I know you will be miserable at first, but if you can hold out a couple of days your congestion will clear up on its own. Good luck.

Unfortunately, you are experiencing something called rebound congestion, which is common with these kinds of drugs. You just have to stop using it and deal with the congestion until it goes away.
In the future, do not use Afrin for more than 72 hours at one time or you will keep getting this rebound congestion.

Getting off nasal sprays is tough. As far as I know you just have to tough it out. You might go to your local pharmacy and ask for nasal rinse. This is a kit with a saline powder and bottle that allows you to rinse out the nasal passage ways without using medication. That may give you some temporary relief while your body adjusts. You have to ask the pharmacist for it. You can also get saline nasal spray. It is not addictive and can be helpful. Suck on mentholyptus lozenges. Best of luck.

very serious matter because Afrin is habit forming. Try to wean yourself off of it. It may take awhile for your nose to clear back up, because now you are dependant on the spray to clear up your nasal passage. Stop using it because it will only make it worse. If your nose doesn't clear up after a few days, go see an ENT (ear nose and throat doctor)

do a sinus rinse, this will clean your cavity. This is why I do not use that stuff. saline nasal spray works great, and is non-drug.
