everyone i know calls them scraps but im not from t'north. im from peterborough and i live in cambridge. scraps are lush

If you mean all the little bits of batter that you can then have on top of your chips, well I've always called them scraps, but I always remember my dad (who is from Newcastle) calling them scramptions. No idea where the word comes from, I never used to use it 'cos I thought it was a silly word, but anyway, that's what he called them.

in the midlands they call them scratchings & they are yummy bits of crispy batter that has fallen away from the fish when frying.

I'm from the North East and we have always refered to them as just plain " batter "When ordering chips you are asked if you would like " batter "..............

I don't know if this is too specific for you but in Bredbury, Nr Stockport we called them fish bits
