Strange as it may seem to Westerners , we DO pension off our non-yielding cows in India ( meaning cows which have stopped giving milk ). They are let out to pasture -- the way the West did its old horses & donkeys .The question of eating them of course does not arise , as the Indian way of life advocates 'extreme non--violence ' , especially for the Brahmins , which means they must take from/ harm the environment the barest minimum that is needed to sustain life . Sound difficult ? we've been doing it from time immemorial , and quite easily , too .

Probably not but there wouldn't be so many cows in the first place if people didn't breed them like crazy for milk and food. We can let them run free and they will find their own food and shelter. The cow breeding industry would drop severely if no one ate meat and the cow population would soon go down. That's actually a good thing because methane from cow fart is contributing to global warming.

No problem.
However, the animal population will decline as the need for them to be bred declines. It's not like all of the cows are just happening naturally.
Cows are artifically inseminated to keep them pregnant so that they continue to give milk. All of the female calves are raised to be milk cows and the males are put into little crates to be veal.
It's a horrible factory and it is cruel and outdated.
I hope everyone who reads this realizes if they aren't vegan, they are supporting this cruelty.
