I've had whats seemed to be pnemonia or a bad cold for the past week and a half--and although I'm about over it, I have not gotten my full voice back yet and I'm still coughing quite a bit. I can talk--but you know that soft voice you use when you talk to a baby or a pet? Well mine is completely gone. Not even a sqeak comes out.

I'm worried because my coughing has been quite bad. I'm wondering if I'll ever get that softer range of my voice back...

I doubt very sincerely if this would be in any way permanent. You can sooth your throat with chamomile tea with honey and lemon, and perhaps a little fresh ginger. I think the coughing has just irritated it.

That soft voice isn't good for the vocal chords, anyway. Rest your voice when you can, and breathe from your diaphragm when speaking. And clear up the respiratory thing. If it's pneumonia, perhaps you need an antibiotic. If you don't think it's quite that, then make a mineral broth (boil fresh veggies, particularly organic spinach and other greens in broth, or water with LOTS of veggies) and drink at least a quart daily. That should help a lot.

Cough don't damage your vocal cords, sometimes we have cold and have the same problem but you'll be fine in a week or two, don't be afraid, your vocal cords are going to be fine..☺

You need a cough suppressant. Can buy it at any pharmacy.
