You need to call her Medical Doctor. Does she have an infection such as a cold or UTI? Is she on insulin. Sliding scale.
Call her doctor.
Have the MD or nurse explain the importance of sticking to her low carb diet. Provide her with other choices for sweet cravings. I like to eat cook and serve choc. pudding made with skim milk.
Call her doctor.

the fast acting insulin such as Regular, Novolog,Humalog, or whatever u normally use for HI CBG. now, on the other hand. to avoid this in the future u commented that she likes butterfingers. just because she likes them and she has diabetes does not mean that she cant have them. she can have them in moderation. a butterfinger has about 2 starches in it so, if she eats 1a day then before she opens the package have her check her CBG and if its ok then get 6units of fast acting insulin to counteract the candy bar.
I'm going to show u how i got the 6 units by the candy being 2 starches for each 15grams of carbs ate (15 grams=1 starch) then multiply 2 x 3=6
2 starches ate multiplied by 3starches=6units of insulin
if u do not understand what i mean u must make an appointment with a dietitian. she can help u understand this better. its hard to explain by not talking to u directly. its simple once u get the hang of it. my 12yr old son does it and he does horrible in math at school.

She should have a sliding scale list for her insulin dosage. I am a type 1 diabetic and have this problem from time to time (damn candy) Last night it was dinner time and I was 356. I took my novolog -10 units and had dinner 2 hours later. It came down I was fine but that is what my plan is as directed by my endocrinologist, she should have a plan too, if not then her doctor failed to tell her what to do when that happens.

You can't. Even with insulin treatment, it takes time. I have to check my b/s every 30 minutes, if I have a high, after treating the high. It is a gradual lessening.
If she starts throwing up, she probably is experiencing ketoacidosis. Get her to an ER if that happens!
She could have an infection if her b/s has been high for a few days or is not responding to insulin. Does she take insulin? Is she type1 or type 2?
Do you have the urine strips to test for ketones?

Yikes she's high! My best friend is diabetic. Okay.... so what you do is get her to drink a lot of water... Then she has to pee and she'll release some of the sugar. Also, more insulin probably. Does she have a insulin pump? Her pump site could need changing or something. Good Luck!

She must be a diabetic if you know what the sugar is....
Is she able to talk? Is she able to swallow?
DO NOT LET HER EAT ANYTHING
If there's REGULAR insulin in the house give her about 10 units. Check her sugar again in about 20 minutes to a half hour. It should come down quite a bit.
However, if she isn't a diabetic, call the doctor.

Forget anything you have ever been told about Diabetes.
And get this - it has nothing to do with insulin, exercise, diet or anything else you've heard in the past. It's all based on latest breakthrough research that Big Pharma is going Stir Crazy to hide from you.

regular insulin-given subcutaneously-will bring her sugar down-a glycohemoglobin--the blood test previously mentioned--is just a test that is able to calculate and provide a person with numbers to determine how well the diabetes has been controlled-for the previous few months--it has nothing to do with lowering blood sugars--and-if your mother has the mentioned infections-they need to be treated-or her blood sugars will continue to be elevated!
