She most likely has gestational diabetes, which in reality is a form of Type II diabetes. She will most likely only have this type of diabetes during her pregnancy. However, most women who only develop diabetes during pregnancy, end up developing diabetes type II about 10 years later in life anyway. Diabetes type II is somewhat genetic, but is mostly due to the environment you live, the amount of physical activity you get and your diet. Exercise is probably the most important things to do if someone if your family has diabetes. Do your best to eat lots of vegetables and small amounts of fats. Exercise as often as possible, even if it means parking your car in the furthest parking spot when going to the store, at least you'll get an additional 5 minutes of walking exercise. A number of woman do get Type 2 Diabetes when they are pregnant and then it stops after the baby is born.

I'd only worry if there is other Diabetics in your family

Some women develope gestational diabetes during pregnancy, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are diabetic, except during the pregnancy.

if other family members have this it can run on either side and yes you can . get a .5. hour gtt. test done this shows if youhave dibetes. and far better than a blood fasting test the one i typed is very accurate. ?
