I worked in the Kosher Kitchen of some large Canadian hotels, and it is not nessessarily a rabbi, but a shule or moile, a religous person educted in the dietary laws of Kasharuth, the inspection and select of food fit for consumption under Jewsih dietary laws and customs, as far as Coke and Sprite being Kosher, they are are only made in the Kosher manner at Passover, when Coca-Cola shuts a number of plants down, sterilizes a number of factorys down and produces syrup for bottling with real cane sugar, and then ships it to bottling plants were they then run it under Kosher laws and practices to make it ready for consumption.

Most of the rest of the year all soda as refered to in the US, is made with Corn Syrup, which is technically not Kosher.

Kosher food is a food that most Jewish religious people eat. You might not know it but you have probably eaten kosher things in your life. If you look closely most food packages have a food sign that has a circle with a U inside it. For example Coke is kosher so is sprite and a lot of other soda's most cereal is kosher too an if you really do look tonz more! If you are going to eat meat the animals are slaughtered in a different way, in the Jewish religion they believe the animal should not have pain in the death so they use a really thin knife. It's kinda like a paper cut it doesn't hurt when u get it just after by then it's dead. So that is what kosher food is I hope it helped

The food is not 'blessed by a rabbi', the process is supervised my someone educated in the laws of kashruth. There are many laws around food being kosher - no milk/dairy with meat/poultry products, animals slaughtered a specific way, etc. Certain things are not going to be kosher ever, no matter how they are prepared - for example: pork, shellfish, certain types of fish, certain cuts of beef. Honestly, it is difficult to answer that question simply. There are many books and websites on the topic if you are looking for a more specific explanation.

side note - Coke and other sodas ARE kosher year round, look for the symbol.

Kosher food has been blessed by the Rabbi. Kosher meat has to be slaughtered a certain way...within Kosher guidelines.
Hope that helps.

Kosher food is prepared according to the laws of Moses.
Animals must be slaughtered by cutting the windpipe so that they loose conscience and don't pump Andreline in the blood stream, certain animals may not be eaten :hogs, horses, camels and seafood that does'nt have scales (clams, oysters, eels and even catfish).
All the digestive system including nerves must be removed, that's why only the front portion of the animals are used.
The dishes must be prepared with pure ingredients,no corn syrup or margarine, and meat dishes cant'be served with milk product,no cheeseburger and no parmesan on spaghetti with meat souce.

the animal is not killed mechanically and after it is cut with a knife it is left to hang so the blood drains out

also the food is prepared at a certain time only to observe the kosher laws
