Ok - long answer.. here we go :)
The best treatment are antiobiotics and as you will read below, one home remedies site recommends a natural one called Colloidal silver. I would just make sure to check online if there are any side effects or warning associated with these, call the Dr to ask or ask the person in the store if you buy them.

I read that some home remedies are to do or take the following:
-Vitamin C helps boost the immune system to fight infection,
-Zinc is also helpful in reducing ear infection and -Take Echinacea which is also a safe herb that helps clear up ear infections and colds (it says it is helpful if you just got it but I would take it anyway ( it is very safe and commonly used for colds and many other purposes - I take it all of the time)
-It also said to mix lobelia and garlic oil or olive oil, place a few drops in the ear and plug it with cotton this will help with pain.
***You can also use Colloidal silver, as an ear wash, it can be taken orally too. This is a natural antibiotic. And - antibiotics seem to be the best thing to clear it up the fastest.

Try to go to a GNC, Vitamin World - somewhere that sells a variety of good herbs and supplements. A combination of the above with the other recommendations below should help and are also safe to take and do.

Here are some home treatments I found on another site as well that may help you. It says "children" but I am sure it is the same for adults.

WEB MD - Ear Infections

Home Treatment

Rest and care at home is often all children with ear infections need. Up to 80% of ear infections get better without treatment. If your child is mildly ill and home treatment takes care of the earache, you may choose not to seek treatment for the ear infection.

At home, try:
* Using pain relievers. Pain relievers such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as Advil, Motrin, and Aleve) and acetaminophen (such as Tylenol and Tempra) will help your child feel better. Giving your child something for pain before bedtime is especially important. Do not give aspirin to anyone younger than 20 because it is linked to Reye's syndrome, a serious illness that needs emergency care.
* Applying heat to the ear, which may help with pain. Use a warm washcloth or a heating pad. Do not allow children to go to bed with a heating pad, because they could get burned. Use a heating pad only if your child is old enough to tell you if it's getting too hot.
* Encouraging rest. Resting will help the body fight the infection. Arrange for quiet play activities.
* Using eardrops. Doctors often suggest eardrops for earache pain. Don't use eardrops without a health professional's advice, especially if your child has tubes in his or her ears. For more information, see the safest way to insert eardrops.

Here is an excerpt from another site but it also has one person who comments that using things other than treatments from a doctor may result in personal hearing damage and other serious problems which is why I really would consult your Dr before using anything at all.

"hate advising people to use any herbal remedy without consulting a doctor first, but 1-2 drops of either garlic or onion juice in the affected ear just might help a little. It may sting, so you may need to dilute the juice with a little cool, boiled water. Lying down with your ear pressed onto a sock or small bag filled with salt may help to draw out any pus-y matter. Neither of these ideas is likely to completely cure your problem"

Also - consider these options too so you don't miss anything important:
-Is there anyway you can take a small tape recorder with you to record it so you can hear it later or play it loud when you get home from a tape player?
-Are there any hearing aids you can buy in the store which may help boost your hearing for the time being??
-Can someone go with you and take notes so you can read them later?

It also would not hurt to go to a drugstore and ask the pharmacist what would work best that is OTC. They know everything about what things work the best - most of the time.

Feel better :o) Hope something helps. I used to get them when I was younger - horrible.

In tinnitus, the sounds a person hears are actually perceptions. Since there's no actual source, they are often referred to as "phantom noises". I read that about 8% of all people in the US suffer from tinnitus so you are not the only one who hears these strange noises.

Tinnitus is actually not a disease. It is actually a symptom of a problem that is rooted deep, somewhere within your body. The problem could be a simple one like an infection in the ear, or even simpler, such as ear wax. Just clear the wax and get the infection treated, and the noises could go away. In some people, it could even be the result of a side-effect of a drug they took. Or it could be more complicated.

If you want to know more about this condition and wnat to learn how to solve naturally your problems with these annoying noises you should read this ebook: http://tinnitus.toptips.org

It helped me a lot.

Do you know that it is an infection or that your ear is blocked with wax? If you have allergies and your sinuses get infected and they can drain into your ear[s]. Go to an ear , nose & throat Dr. Don't play around with this because it can get worse and you will loose your hearing. I had to have my ears drained because my sinuses had drained into my ears and I got dizzy if I stood up. It took 2 people to hold me up. Mine is caused from allergies. My cousin's wife has allergies and she has lost her hearing.

for allergies everyday take a tablespoon of local[ area where you live] honey. And if you can't find any local honey [sold at fruit stands] then you can buy you some brand name honey at the super market but it won't help you as good as the local. use a heating pad or warm towel over your sinuses to get them to drain out instead of in. And colloidal silver, echinacea, vitamins, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, zinc, green tea, saline nasal spray or sinu cleanse are a few of things that are good for allergies. I use some or all everyday .Don't eat any dairy products. I hope some of this helps. and I hope you get to feeling better.

Try steaming your head over a bowl of very hot water with some olbas oil dropped in (or other decongestant). I know it's your ear that's blocked but the ears, nose and throat are all connected and it might help relieve the pressure. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

If I were you I would use a teaspoon of olive oil or almond oil and pour some on each side and let it soak in there for a while . Say after five minute , clean ear with cottonbuds .

Anything with an antihistamine in it. Another trick to temporarily help is put your pinky finger in blocked ear and push back and up, while opening mouth to yawn. It does help some. Also pinch your nose, close your mouth and blow out gently.

You can buy stuff called Sterimar at any chemist. It is basically a seawater spray that you spray in your ears. You just spray it in for a second and let it pour out. It loosens up any wax, as gives you temporary hearing.
I use it, and I find I can hear for a few hours after using it.

Just drop warm water in. Should clear it up. Don't use a cotton swab. Or take a warm shower and point the water into your ear.
