Better consult your physician. Hypertension is a Blood Pressure of 140/90 on 3 separate occasions. A BP of 110/90, 120/90, 130/90 is Pre-Hypertension , stage going to hypertension.
Usually patients are asymptomatic, meaning they dont feel anything. I had seen a patient with a BP of 230/110 without feeling anything. He just walked in to have his BP monitored.
Some hypertension are idiopathic, meaning all blood chemistries such as cholesterol, LDL ( bad Cholesterol) , are normal , Triglyceides, blood sugar, BUN & Creatinine ( kidney functions) are also normal , Sodium , ECG, are all normal
Most hypertension are idiopathic, some are hereditary. Some with abnormal kidneys are said to be secondary hypertension , meaning there is an underlying cause.
Diet: Low Salt, Low Fat Diet, Make sure your weight is within ideal. Have your BP monitored at least 2-3x a week. If you have a BP apparatus, bring it to the clinic and have it compared. The most reliable one is the mercury. However, digital are ok for BP monitoring but it is important that a comparison is made with the mercurial type or the one usually found in the clinic of the doctor.
Be sure that you are within the ideal weight. Have an ECG first before you exercise. For others it might be ok but others have heart abnormalities which might make exercise not good for them.
There should be lifestyle modification. Aside from the diet, avoid smoking, alcohol! Sleep at least 8 hours a day. Too much stress can add up to the BP increase.
It is important to consult your doctor, have your blood chemistries done & your ECG. Medication might be given & it is usually for life. It is better to take medication than to have the complications such as stroke, coronary artery disease or myocardial infarction or heart attack.

Live in a gym, I suppose! I am in the same situation and I do not think you can get down to normal within a week without doing some damage to yourself. Keep off red meat, exercise regularly - i'm amazed how low my pressure gets after an hour of non-strenuous jogging every morning. Keep off salt and sugar as much as possible and, best of all, see a cardiologist who will customise your treatment from the details of age, size, weight, etc., that you did not supply. Scorpio66
